“My deep interest in psychology and human development guided me in my academic journey. I resonated to Marist objective to teach school psychology students to be experts in psychological assessment, counseling, and educational consultation - the various roles a school psychologist must perform to be effective. Based on these respectable standards, I believed that Marist would prepare me the best for becoming a school psychologist. In addition, the school psychology professors are phenomenal.”

Marist's on-campus MA in School Psychology prepares you for NY State certification and National Certification as a School Psychologist (NCSP) eligibility with small cohort sizes, faculty who are practicing certified school psychologists, and field placements across nine Hudson Valley school districts.
Yes — the program is designed to lead directly to NY State certification as a school psychologist, including all required coursework, supervised practica, and the culminating internship year. Graduates are also eligible for the National Certification as a School Psychologist (NCSP) credential through NASP. Out-of-state certification: Marist's certification disclosure notes that other states' requirements vary. Candidates planning to work outside NY State should research target-state certification requirements directly — the program is not pre-evaluated for other-state reciprocity.
Across nine Hudson Valley school district partners: Greater Johnstown, Highland Central, Hyde Park Central, Marlboro Central, Monroe-Woodbury Central, Newburgh Enlarged Central, Red Hook Central, Wallkill Central, and Valley Central. Many graduates are hired into the same district that placed them. The field placement coordinator (Dr. Stacy A. S. Williams, NCSP) personally manages district relationships and student placement matching.
Different professions, different credentials, different work. School psychologists conduct psychoeducational assessments, develop intervention plans for students with learning and behavioral needs, consult with teachers and parents, and provide direct counseling — certified through state education departments and NASP. School counselors focus on academic, career, and personal/social counseling at scale — different certification track. Clinical psychologists work in therapeutic clinical settings — typically requiring a doctoral degree (PhD or PsyD). If your goal is K-12 schools and student assessment-and-intervention work, school psychology is the right path.
100% since 2015. Every Marist MA in School Psychology student who has taken the Praxis II School Psychologist exam since 2015 has passed it. The Praxis II is required for NY State certification and NCSP eligibility, so this stat directly tracks whether students leave the program with the credential they came for.
Marist’s Master's in School Psychology program builds the practical skills needed to excel in prevention, evaluation, counseling, intervention, and consultation. Grounded in evidence-based practice, the curriculum prepares you to address students’ educational and emotional needs across diverse school settings. You’ll learn to collaborate with families, teachers, and community partners to support student growth and well-being.
